Winter Tours

March is an amazing time to visit Alaska.  With days getting longer the anticipation of Spring is in the air.  Evenings may offer a glimpse of the Northern Lights dancing in the sky.  The first Saturday in March is the beginning of the Iditarod, The Last Great Race.  We can provide you a front row, bird’s eye view of mushers and their sled dog teams along the thousand mile trail ending in Nome.  Check out our Iditarod Tour page for more details on the trips we offer.

Scenic tours in the winter provide guests with exceptional views of the Alaska Range with dramatic lighting.  The snow that falls in the winter months replenish the snowpack of the mountains and glaciers of the Alaska Range.  Alaska winters can be extremely cold so you need to dress appropriately when flightseeing this time of year.  Sunglasses, a heavy jacket, hats, gloves, thermal base layers and warm boots are recommended.  Due to snow conditions and cold temperatures, glacier landings generally are not available this time of year.

Winter Office Hours

Our winter office hours are seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.  October 15th to March 15th – Flight time is approximately at noon; Second flight at 1:30pm is subject to demand.

Transportation

If you need transportation to Talkeetna, the Alaska Railroad operates on a limited schedule. From September 24th through May 14th, the train arrives in Talkeetna from Anchorage on Saturdays at 11:25 a.m. It departs from Talkeetna to Anchorage on Sundays at 4:50 p.m. You can book your ticket through the Alaska Railroad. There are many places to stay in downtown Talkeetna that are within walking distance from the train depot. We also can provide transportation from your lodging to our office.
